INTRODUCTION:
Greetings from us here in East Africa Kenya, we kindly take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We are a small self help group situated in Nairobi slums where the poor and destitute people live in shanties and in total poverty. This area is a home of around 40,000 people. Most of them are drug addicts, street families and the HIV-AIDS victims. Due to the fact that these people live below poverty level they rarely take their children to school. We therefore decided to come in and offer some help and assist where we can by trying to offer informal education. Children from this area rarely go up to class 8 (foundation/Elementary) level they drop out and engage themselves in drugs, prostitution and in cheap traditional liquors. On the other side very few parents who can afford the secondary school education for their children. To assist these people we have set up a pre-school and lower primary stream, which are in mud-built structures for the small kids ages 3-9 years. We cannot manage to have all classes because we do not have funds. For big boys and girls we have recently started training them in textiles and tailoring, sweater making, (knitting) and we are also starting carpentry. Our major problems is that we have to hire a sewing and knitting machines to teach them in intervals for we cannot afford to buy for them. We are also now making arrangements to start training them on using computers for every part of our industrial area where they could work is becoming computerized. Kindly respond to us and say where you would like to help. We would like these machines and equipment, computers, books, pens, desks, and other stationery for these children. We hire low cost rooms and staff and if one may volunteer to be meeting any cost we would appeciate and be happy to make the youngsters lives bright. We extend our warmest welcome even to come and see what we actually do and where we are.In summary we, 1) Vigorously campaigning against the spread of HIV/AIDS ,use of illicit cheap brews and drug abuse among others. Hiv/aids in Kenya and our efforts -It can be overwhelming to look at the statistics and hard to know how to begin helping. However, we can all do our part. Fullcare focuses on working one on one with young youth within our society to enlighten them on ways of stopping spread of HIV/AIDS. dangers of using drugs on grassroots level. We have found this approach to be a very cost-effective method to reaching many youth and children. We look forward to partnering with a variety of organizations helping orphaned children in the world. This will enable us to effectively hold rallies, workshops, prepare printed materials etc. To meet this objective we try to maintain, promote and develop the Christian ethos in the centre and encourage the children and youths to develop a personal faith in Christ. The Christian ethos of the Fullcare centre is to be encouraged by the appointment of Christian staff (wherever possible), the inclusion of regular worship meetings in the centre, the saying of grace at meal times and the promotion of the benefits of prayer. Children are required to attend a local church and are encouraged to develop their Christian faith. The Charity's objects are the relief of need and the advancement of education in accordance with Christian principles, in particular (without prejudice to the generality) for the benefit of orphaned children, less fortunate children and children suffering the effects of social and economic deprivation living in our society. 2) Offering daycare services to these precious children and teaching in our pre-school classes. The Day Care Centre project was initiated by Simon Komu And the idea was adopted due to the need of having children left without a care taker and they moved around in the open scaverging for food remaining and later joining street kids and partially because most of these guardians do not take children to school due to cost and ignorance. They let them stray around doing nothing throughout the day. The overall purpose of the project is to provide an affordable and accessible early childhood care and education for destitute, orphaned and the less-fortunate children. Therefore we provide an accessible Early Childhood Care and Education for children in our centre. We provide alternative intervention strategies in protecting children from becoming street children. We promote and provide an alternative pre-school education in Kenya that is community based. We formulate and create an alternative, sustainable child-care service in Kenya to cater for the needs of the urban poor child 3) Provision of desperately poor children, orphans mostly due to HIV/AIDS with nourishing foods, clean water, Education, books, uniform. Our other major objective is to provide a secure setting in which every child is given the opportunity to express themselves , Provision of basic needs such as foods, clean water, Education, learning materials, uniform to these desperate, poor children, orphans mostly due to HIV/AIDS We are appealing to wellwishers to kindly offer to donate goods in kind or even funds that we could use to meet our objective. Children spend the the whole day hungry. We have a tentative budget below for some of the items we need. We also welcome all sorts of stationary for children’s use while learning. 4) Help to rehabilitate school dropouts through skills training them in tailoring and dress making, knitting, carpentry, hair dressing, and basic computer knowledge. This will enable them to survive on their own in the future. Help to rehabilitate school dropouts,Street children loitering around through skills training them in nonformal skills. Tailoring and dress making, Knitting, carpentry, hair dressing, and basic computer knowledge. This will enable them to survive on their own in the future. We are looking for acquisition of tools and training materials to jumpstart and improve youth programme training.Introduction of skills development courses for girls groups, and introduction of short training courses on technical and management subjects for young teenagers already active in the jua kali sector ( apprentices) This is actually our future plan and prayer when we shall have tools and equipment to meet this. on the other side it is very vital and benefitial to have this operating. The trainees or the youths will mutual benefit with skills learnt, the society will have trained people and this in itself is an achievement. The children department will then start becoming independent little by little in the sense that what is produced by trainees can be worn by the children. If possible they could also produce a few products like children clothes, sweters, socks etc which could be sold around and this can help pay operational costs for the whole project centre. Moreso buy purchasing foodstuff for daily cosumption by the children. The centre will finally be able to learn with ease. Yours faithfully, Simon Komu Founder and Overseer.
